the creation of colors by padmini

our desire is to create bold and meaningful accents for spaces such as bedrooms, living rooms, and dining rooms, and we naturally tend to design meditation, yoga and dance studios.

our inspiration comes from the bright colors of indian sari fabrics and the tribal dance outfits of gypsy communities that we come across while traveling the world, particularly in india.

we developed an immense fascination with old needle work, preservation of old crafts and up-cycling treasures from the past into new creations for adornment and to surround us.

- what we make -

padmini’s signature window treatment offers a very colorful palette of sheer and semi-sheer materials. in developing the sari curtains, we commit to the presence, the fall and transparency, the way vibrant color filters light and the volume that color creates. the vast world of indian saris unfold, and we source the fabric from bazaars and sari shops in delhi and rajasthan.

through research and over many years of working with home owners and designers in our boutique in philadelphia, we developed a line of bedding, decorative pillows, table runners and tapestries that are simple in proportion and construction, yet feature amazing materials.

here we incorporate old material like antique embroidery, kantha or gudri with new materials like block print cotton and raw silk - all to create functional art.

the "padmini women" line of boho chic apparel and our one-of-a-kind accessories are an expression of our inspired life style. the gypsy tribal dancer and the authentic beauty found in women around the world who are wearing such color and texture - these are our sources of creativity.
